Environmental Management Plan – Ngati Rangitihi

A resource management plan prepared by an iwi, iwi authority, rūnanga or hapū.

EMPs are generally prepared as expressions of rangatiratanga to help iwi and hapū define and exercise their kaitiaki roles and responsibilities. EMPs are a written statement identifying important issues, expectations and aspirations regarding the use of natural and physical resources in the group’s area, and may also define how that group relates to these resources culturally and socially. EMPs are often holistic documents that cover more than RMA matters and may assume a variety of shapes and forms; from formal planning documents similar to council policy documents, to informal statements of iwi policies, or a series of detailed memos or reports. Articulation of the group’s perspectives and expectations in an EMP provides consistency, accountability, and reduces the need to respond to diverse issues and queries from external stakeholders.
