BEYOND CONSULTATION – Getting good outcomes for everyone in cross-cultural resource consent practice – Kanawa et al 2011

This paper discusses what good outcomes of consultation should look like.

Consultation with Māori during the resource consent process is required by law, and there are many ‘best practice’ guidelines on how this should occur.  Less attention has been given to what a good outcome of the consultation process might look like, and how this could be achieved.  This paper discusses what makes for a good consultation process, where Māori knowledge and values are appropriately considered and included in the process and the final decision.
